What’s behind the curtain? ARCHILIVES Info Day brought together theatre professionals, artists, cultural stakeholders and members of the local community at the Mon Repos Open-Air Theatre “Rena Vlachopoulou” in Corfu.
The event, held on 19 July 2026, was organised by the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Corfu – Social Enterprise of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands (DI.PE.THE. Corfu).
The Info Day presented the objectives and main activities of the ARCHILIVES project, highlighting the role of digital technologies in preserving, documenting and promoting theatrical cultural heritage. Participants were introduced to the project’s vision of creating a modern digital ecosystem for safeguarding and enhancing theatre archives.
The agenda included welcome remarks by Georgios Lykissas, President of DI.PE.THE. Corfu, a presentation of the project, and keynote speeches by Petros Gallias, Artistic Director of DI.PE.THE. Corfu, and Damianos (Akis) Cheirdaris, who highlighted the importance of theatre archives as living repositories of cultural memory.
A particularly engaging round-table discussion, “Stories Behind the Curtain: What Archives Do Not Record”, featured actresses Nota Darmani, Marietta Savvani, Katerina Georgaki and Sofia Tomprou. The discussion evolved into an open dialogue, with additional theatre professionals joining from the audience, creating a unique collective exchange of memories and experiences that reflected the philosophy of the ARCHILIVES project.
The event concluded with an open discussion and networking session, strengthening cooperation among cultural stakeholders and raising awareness of the importance of preserving theatrical heritage through digital innovation.
