How can historic cities embrace innovation and sustainability while preserving their identity? This was the key challenge of the two days events within the framework of the ENERGIE project, on 9 and 10 June 2026, in Matera: the thematic conference “Co-design Protocols for the Enhancement of Urban and Social Capital” and the Steering Committee Meeting, becoming a hub for dialogue, cooperation and innovation.
Held at the Casa delle Tecnologie Emergenti, the thematic conference brought together local authorities, researchers, urban planners, stakeholders and citizens in a discussions covered topics such as sustainable mobility, strategic spatial planning and the opportunities offered by Matera’s Digital Twin, highlighting how heritage and innovation can reinforce one another through collaborative approaches. The event also presented the regeneration pathways being developed in Matera, Brindisi and Aigialeia within the ENERGIE project.
The Steering Committee Meeting, hosted by Fondazione Matera Basilicata 2019, reflected the same spirit of collaboration. Project partners from Italy and Greece reviewed progress achieved so far, aligned on upcoming activities and discussed the next phase of implementation. With pilot actions taking shape across the three territories, the meeting focused on translating shared ideas into concrete opportunities for local communities through cross-border cooperation and the contribution of international talents.
Hosted by a city that has made regeneration part of its story, the two events reflected the spirit of ENERGIE itself: connecting people, places and ideas to shape new futures for Mediterranean territories.
