On September 8–9, ARTI hosted the kick-off meeting of ENERGIE, the cross-border project that reimagines territories and peripheral areas as sustainable, creative, and attractive places through inclusive co-design. The meeting launched the project’s activities and defined the first strategic actions, with guidance from the Joint Secretariat of the Interreg Greece-Italy Programme on management and implementation.
ENERGIE tests replicable regeneration models combining urban co-design, skills development, and sustainability to support the transition of vulnerable areas, attract talent, and create new economies. At its core are international young talents under 35 in creativity, sustainability, and innovation, working with local communities to design scenarios inspired by New European Bauhaus principles.
Over two years, ENERGIE will be implemented in Brindisi (Puglia), Matera (Basilicata), and Aigialeia (Western Greece), areas facing depopulation, declining industrial zones, and the need for cultural and economic revitalization. Through workshops, field research, and creative labs, the project will deliver three comprehensive regeneration plans, showing how collaborative design can tackle vulnerabilities, strengthen local economies, and foster social and cultural innovation for a resilient Mediterranean.
The partnership brings together key actors from both sides of the Adriatic: ARTI – Regional agency for technology, technology transfer and Innovation of Puglia (lead partner), the Municipality of Brindisi, the Matera-Basilicata 2019 Foundation, the Regional Development Fund of Western Greece, and the Municipality of Aigialeia.
