Brindisi, Matera and Aigialeia. Different territories, but sharing a common challenge: responding to demographic and economic change while creating new opportunities for sustainable local development. These are the three pilot areas of the ENERGIE project, where activities are now getting underway as the project moves from planning to action.
Each pilot brings a distinctive context. In Brindisi, ENERGIE focuses on Molo Catene, a waterfront area strongly connected to the city’s maritime identity, whose regeneration can open new opportunities for the local community. In Matera, the project addresses mobility challenges in the Sassi area, exploring solutions that can improve accessibility while supporting a more sustainable and inclusive relationship between residents, visitors and the city’s unique heritage. In Aigialeia, the focus is on the former Aigio Paper Mill, an industrial site whose regeneration and reuse can contribute to revitalising the surrounding area and creating new local opportunities.
Different contexts, one shared ambition: turning territorial transformations into opportunities to strengthen local economies, enhance existing assets and build more attractive and resilient communities.
To support this process, nine international talents under 35, selected through a dedicated call, will work with local communities and stakeholders through workshops, field research and creative labs. Their skills and perspectives will contribute to co-designing new development scenarios and three strategic regeneration plans.
Inspired by the New European Bauhaus, ENERGIE will test replicable models of sustainable and creative territorial regeneration through cross-border cooperation.
