From theory to action! The ECOFLOW pilot action in Gallipoli has entered its experimental phase, focusing on the assessment of treated wastewater reuse as a sustainable solution for agricultural irrigation.
Following the completion of the preparatory activities, the AQP pilot field is now operating in accordance with the experimental protocol developed by the project team, with the aim of analysing how different water sources influence soil properties and olive plant development.
The trial involves 60 olive trees of the Favolosa and Lecciana cultivars, selected for their suitability to the local agricultural context and provided by ARIF (project partner).
A structured monitoring system is being implemented throughout the experimentation period, covering:
- water quality;
- soil parameters;
- plant health and development.
The data collected will support the evaluation of the environmental and agronomic performance of the different irrigation treatments and provide evidence of the potential of reclaimed water as an alternative resource for agriculture.
Through this pilot action, ECOFLOW demonstrates the potential of treated wastewater reuse as a sustainable water management solution, supporting circular economy approaches, innovation and climate resilience in Mediterranean agricultural areas.
