The path of the our cooperation’s future 2028-2034 has been marked out. The first Programming Committee of Interreg Greece-Italy Programme took place on 9 June in Matera.
The establishment of Committee has been approved at the end of the presentation of the rules of procedure. The representative of the European Commission, Maria Sioliou, presented an overview of Commission’s proposals concerning Interreg Plan for the next programming period (2028-2034) .
Then the discussion turned to ESPON study: the main territorial evidence emerging from the study was presented with the goal to translate it into programming-relevant messages and to support strategic choices for Interreg VII (2028–2034). Also the MA explained on the realistic added value for a maritime cross-border area and to identify the critical knowledge gaps requiring additional territorial analysis before policy objectives and financial allocations are decided.
Before the closure of the PC, the Work Plan for Programming Process has been outlined with the next appointments in presence and online in 2027 and 2028.
Together with the Programming Committee, a fruitful two-day working session has come to a close. This session enabled the Interreg Greece-Italy to establish key milestones in the progress of its implementation, whilst also providing an opportunity for an exchange of views and moments of sharing within the picturesque setting of Matera. Its historic centre, unique in the world and UNESCO World Heritage Site, surrounded by the ravines and hills of the Lucanian Murgia, provided the perfect backdrop for such a pivotal moment in cooperation between Greece and Italy.
