From 24 to 26 June 2026, Lefkada became a hub for textile heritage, sustainability and cross-border cooperation within the framework of HERITAGETEX.
Hosted by the Chamber of Lefkada, the three-day event brought together project partners, Italian SMEs, experts and local stakeholders to explore how traditional textile knowledge can inspire new models of sustainable development. The activities opened with the local dissemination conference, focused on circular economy, innovation and the future prospects of the textile and handicraft sector.
The following day, the workshop on cultural practices offered a deeper reflection on the value of living heritage, local identity and traditional know-how.
The study visit and incoming mission gave participants the opportunity to experience Lefkada’s craft traditions directly. From loom demonstrations to the visit to Karya, the programme highlighted the strong link between community, memory and innovation.
Through dialogue, exchange and hands-on experience, HERITAGETEX confirmed that textile heritage is not only a legacy to be protected, but also a driver for creativity, resilience and sustainable growth across Greece and Italy.
