EASY WASTE – Efficient Ports Waste Management Solutions for Blue Circular Economy

Acronym: EASY WASTE

Category:
Ordinary

Project Summary

The EASY WASTE project aggressively addresses the critical issue of marine litter in the marine region between Greece and Italy, with a targeted focus onwaste dispersed both accidentally and intentionally.

The mission is to provide complete and innovative solutions that revolutionize waste management, promoting efficient collaboration between
fishermen and port authorities. Through the implementation of advanced communication tools, the project facilitates advance reporting by
fishermen regarding the type and quantity of waste to be disposed of, thus improving the timeliness and responsibility in the management process by port authorities. The heart of the project lies in the enhanced identification and verification of waste, exploiting cutting-edge technologies such as
Artificial Intelligence. The images provided by fishermen and captured by port authorities allow these tools to be trained, making waste recognition
an efficient and accurate process.

EASY WASTE actively promotes responsible waste management practices, implementing incentives to motivate fishermen to collect waste, thus actively contributing to the protection of the marine environment. Training and raising awareness of port staff and fishermen is an integral part of the project, aiming to increase awareness of the environmental impact of marine waste and enhance skills for more effective management and disposal.
Furthermore, EASY WASTE is committed to a pioneering approach in the treatment of waste, with a particular focus on plastic, allowing it to be
transformed into reusable materials. This innovative component contributes significantly to the reduction of environmental impact, the
advancement of sustainability in the maritime region and the education of recycling awareness.

Finally, the project is committed to implementing a process of continuous improvement, adapting and evolving in response to the dynamics
of the Greece-Italy maritime context, with a long lasting impact over time.
