HELIX-SMART is a cross-border initiative helping small businesses and freelancers in Greece and Italy embrace digital transformation and sustainable growth. Focusing on ICT, tourism, and the blue economy, the project addresses regional challenges by closing digital skills gaps, boosting competitiveness, and promoting eco-friendly practices that strengthen local resilience.
At the heart of HELIX-SMART are Living Labs—innovative multipurpose centers where SMEs and freelancers can co-create, test, and experiment with digital solutions. An e-learning platform with MOOCs offers specialized courses to build essential digital skills, while a pioneering Digital Twin platform allows businesses to safely test tools virtually, cutting risks and costs of transformation.
Collaboration is key. By bringing together SMEs, public authorities, and universities from both countries, HELIX-SMART creates a shared network of resources, knowledge, and innovation support. The initiative also ensures inclusivity, promoting digital access for women-led enterprises and disadvantaged communities, fostering equal opportunities in the digital economy.
The project is fully aligned with national strategies such as Greece’s Digital Transformation Bible and Italy’s Impresa 4.0, ensuring that its resources are embedded into long-term business support services.
What will change? SMEs and freelancers will gain stronger digital skills, easier access to innovation, and closer connections within a supportive ecosystem. By building resilience and inclusivity, HELIX-SMART sets the stage for a future where businesses across Greece and Italy can grow smarter, greener, and more connected.
