For centuries, traditional heritage professions have been at the heart of our cities, keeping alive unique skills, stories, and cultural identities. Yet today, these traditions are at risk. Globalization, urban growth, and changing lifestyles are making it harder for these professions to survive and remain relevant.
The MARKATO project was created to give new life to these valuable traditions. Its mission is to protect and pass on traditional knowledge to future generations, while at the same time promoting heritage-based products and services in new and engaging ways. The project also aims to design fresh cultural and tourism experiences that allow people to discover, enjoy, and appreciate traditional crafts and skills.
Technology will play a big part in this journey, helping to share these traditions more widely, connect communities, and create innovative ways of experiencing heritage.
By combining preservation with innovation, MARKATO seeks not only to safeguard cultural heritage but also to open up new opportunities for local communities. The project will strengthen urban identities, create connections between past and present, and make cities more attractive and vibrant places for residents, visitors, and cultural explorers.
