OFIDIAPlus aims to enhance wildfire risk management and climate adaptation in southern Italy and western Greece by strengthening institutional capacity for disaster prevention and response. The project expands real-time fire monitoring using advanced sensor networks, drones, and AI tools in Puglia, Calabria, Basilicata, and Epirus, enabling quicker emergency responses and improved cross-border coordination. A key innovation is the upgrade of the Decision Support System (DSS), which integrates AI and mobile features to support decision-making, optimize field operations, fleet management, and stakeholder collaboration.

Operational centers in both countries are being equipped with modern infrastructure to boost monitoring, response, and safety. The project promotes harmonized fire prevention and climate adaptation policies, ensuring consistent standards across borders. Through capacity-building activities—workshops, training, and public awareness campaigns—local institutions such as Puglia’s Civil Protection and the Hellenic Fire Corps are empowered to lead resilience efforts.

Organized into five interconnected Work Packages, OFIDIAPlus ensures strong coordination (WP1), effective communication and stakeholder engagement (WP2), deployment of IoT infrastructure (WP3), AI-based fire prediction and climate risk assessment (WP4), and integration into a centralized DSS (WP5). Key partners contribute specialized expertise, from system administration and AI modeling (CMCC) to field sensor deployment (PB2), algorithm development (PB3), forest adaptation (PB4), and operational center upgrades in Greece (PB5).
With milestone-driven deployment—prototype by month 12, pre-operational system by month 18, and full rollout by month 24—the project supports safer, more sustainable, and resilient cross-border communities vulnerable to climate-induced wildfires.
