OnSea is one of the four flagship strategic projects of the 2021–2027 programming period, uniting Greece and Italy to shape a bold, sustainable and future-oriented cross-border tourism destination.
Bringing together alternative, cultural, nature-based, marine and outdoor tourism, OnSea responds to the evolving expectations of modern travelers. Sustainability, accessibility and innovation are at the core of the project, ensuring that tourism growth goes hand in hand with environmental protection and inclusive development.
Led by the Region of Epirus, the partnership includes Development of Epirus SA – AOTA, the Greek Ministry of Tourism, the Region of the Ionian Islands, and the Italian Regions of Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria. Together, they are building a connected destination with strong international appeal.
A landmark intervention is the restoration of the historic Anagnostopoulio School in Konitsa, which will be transformed into a modern Alternative Tourism Hub — a central reference point for the cross-border area. Within this space, the Vikos–Aoos Geopark Information Center will welcome visitors and showcase one of Europe’s most impressive natural landscapes.
Across the participating regions, OnSea delivers high-impact actions:
- Strengthening sustainable mobility and accessibility around Lake Trichonida
- Promoting maritime tourism through an international sailing regatta in the Ionian Islands
- Revitalizing and upgrading the Museo Castromediano in Puglia
- Developing a naturalistic and geological route in Matera, Basilicata
- Expanding and enhancing hiking trail networks in Calabria
OnSea is more than a tourism initiative. It is a shared investment in cooperation, innovation and sustainable development — shaping a dynamic, multidisciplinary destination with long-term value and strong global prospects.
