On 4 June 2026, SEALIFE partners gathered in Argostoli, Kefalonia, at the NECCA Argostoli branch, for a project meeting hosted by Archipelagos – Environment and Development and welcomed by NECCA.
The meeting offered an important opportunity for the Italian and Greek partners to review the progress of activities and align on the next implementation steps. In line with SEALIFE’s overall objective, discussions focused on strengthening cross-border cooperation for the protection of the Mediterranean monk seal, improving shared knowledge of the species and harmonising monitoring methods across the Adriatic-Ionian area.
Partners discussed project management and financial monitoring, communication activities, preliminary analysis and site identification, as well as monitoring indicators, equipment purchase, cave monitoring activities and data collection protocols.
The meeting helped consolidate a shared operational approach and prepare the partnership for upcoming field activities. The second day, the partners continued their work with a joint testing session in the sea to assess monitoring capabilities near monk seal caves.
