The ports of Patras (Greece) and Taranto (Italy) will be soon digitally linked by BE:TWIN project, using digital twin technologies and AI-powered platforms.
On July 8th 2025, the Port Network Authority of the Ionian Sea – Port of Taranto hosted the Kick-Off Meeting of BE:TWIN, one of the 37 common projects co-funded by the 1st call of the Interreg VI-A Greece–Italy 2021–2027 Programme.
BE:TWIN seeks to improve port interoperability, sustainability, and operational intelligence by enabling real-time modelling, data exchange, and collaborative decision-making across borders.
During the meeting, partners outlined the project’s main pillars:
- Project Rationale – Supporting digital innovation for port authorities in Taranto and Patras
- Technical Overview – Defining the digital architecture and AI integrations
- Implementation Timeline – Mapping milestones for development and deployment
- Sustainability & Governance – Establishing long-term management and evaluation models
Technical partners MEDISDIH and CTI contributed key scientific insights, ensuring a robust and forward-looking technological framework.
BE:TWIN represents a decisive step toward smart port transformation and cross-border maritime innovation in the Adriatic–Ionian region.
