In the framework of the NESTS project, the Tree Festival took place in Manduria on 28 November, organised by the Regional Natural Reserves of the Coast of Eastern Taranto, Lead Beneficiary of the project.
The initiative is part of the NESTS regional actions aimed at promoting the sustainable enjoyment of Natura 2000 sites, and it took place at the Salina dei Monaci, a natural area known for its iconic pink flamingos, which added a unique backdrop to the day’s activities.
Middle school students from Manduria were the main protagonists: throughout the morning, the salt lagoon was filled with their voices and enthusiasm. Guided by the Reserve’s staff, the students took part in the planting of new trees, transforming the activity into a hands-on learning experience and an opportunity to connect with the environment. This symbolic gesture allowed them to contribute directly to nature conservation, fostering greater ecological awareness and responsibility.
The event proved to be an educational and engaging occasion, bringing together nature and community in a shared experience of environmental awareness.
