The University of Calabria hosted on Wednesday, July 2nd, the launch of the “BlueCulTour – Interconnecting Blue Cultural Tourism Offer in the Ionian Sea” project, funded by the Interreg Greece–Italy 2021–2027 Programme.
The project aims to enhance the underwater and maritime cultural heritage of the Ionian Sea through sustainable tourism. Visitors will explore underwater sites through immersive digital experiences.
Pilot actions will take place in three areas: the Ionian coast of Calabria (Crotone–Roccella), the Gulf of Taranto (Apulia), and the submerged ports of Kyllene and Glarentza in western Greece.
Led by the University of Calabria, representing one of the new eligible areas of Interreg Greece–Italy Programme, it involves the Calabria Region, the Greek Municipality of Kyllini, and the Italian and Greek authorities for underwater heritage.
The event featured speakers from institutions such as representatives of the Joint Secretariat of the Programme, the National Superintendency for Underwater Cultural Heritage, and the Calabria Region.
