The first monitoring committee in Matera, the sixt in the programming time 2021-2027 of Interreg Greece-Italy Programme. After one full day of productive dialogue, it approved the 6th and 7th calls with a total of 13 projects and 11,4 million €.
In details 8 projects have been approved in the 6Th call: 3 for the specific objective 1.3 (Growth and competitiveness of SMEs) with 2,5 million €, 2 for the SO 2.4 (Climate Change) with 2,2 million € and 3 for the SO 4.5 (Healthcare) with 3,8 million €. In the 7th call have been approved 5 governance projects: 4 with the ISO 6.1 with 2,2 million € and 1 with the ISO 6.4 with 0,7 million €.
During the committee, the current status of the 37 Common Projects and of the 4 OSI that have already been funded, were outlined. This was followed by a presentation of the next steps to ensure the smooth implementation of the projects.
After the long discussion and the approval of the 6th and 7th calls, the committee discussed the interim evaluation of the programme, the presentation of the timeline for the next and final call for small-scale projects, and the Cross-Border Coordination Point, with a focus on what it is and how it will operate within the Greece-Italy cooperation area. Furthermore the communication activities of the last 8 months have been told, with strategy and next steps for the future.
Maria Sioliou, the European Commission representative, expressed her appreciation: “The Programme is progressing very well, as demonstrated by the projects’ selection rate. All the partners deserve congratulations on these joint achievements. The priority now is to translate this selection rate into effective and timely implementation on the ground. This Monitoring Committee meeting is very important, as it is followed by the first Programming Committee meeting for 2028–2034, marking the beginning of discussions on the strategic direction of future cooperation”.

With 13 new projects approved and strong implementation progress across the Programme, we are demonstrating the value of cooperation in delivering concrete solutions for shared challenges. Following the decisions of the Monitoring Committee, the Programme’s project selection rate has now exceeded 100%, reflecting both the high level of maturity achieved and the strong commitment of all participating partners to accelerate the delivery of results. I would like to thank all Programme bodies, national authorities and project partners for their continuous commitment and contribution to these achievements.”
