The first meeting of the Monitoring Committee (MC) of the Interreg Greece-Italy 2021-2027 Programme was held in Greece (Patras) on 28 March 2023. The MC is the decision-making body of the Programme, chaired by Mr. Georgios Zervos, Special Secretary for ERDF and Cohesion Fund for the Greek Ministry of Development and Investments, and is composed by members from the participating countries, as well as the European Commission.
The meeting was attended by delegates from 2 countries Italy and Greece – in particular the Italian Region of Puglia and the Greek Regions of Epirus, Ionian Islands and Western Greece, and Region of Calabria and Region of Basilicata as newcomers on the Italian side – as well as representatives of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (REGIO), representatives of the Italian Cohesion Policy Department and the former Italian Cohesion Agency, the Managing Authority, the Joint Secretariat and the Info Point Officers of Ioannina and Patras and the Antenna Officer of Corfu.
It was a strategic appointment, which gave the operational start to a new cycle of activities and opportunities within one of the older cooperation initiatives financed by the European Union under the European Territorial Cooperation (Interreg) goal of the Cohesion Policy. With a budget of €106 million, Interreg Greece-Italy main objective is to contribute to a smart, sustainable, fair development in Greece and Italy, through balanced cooperation and multilevel governance, focusing on green and digital growth and exploiting the opportunities of the blue economy.
During the Monitoring Committee meeting, besides the adoption of its rules of procedure, the following items under discussion were approved:
- Selection process and evaluation criteria of the calls for proposals
- Functions of the Joint Secretariat and terms of reference for the selection of the staff;
- Communication Strategy 2021-2027 and the new requirements.
